SectionIQ Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains the intended handling of information by SectionIQ, a rail performance application developed by Bodge Job Apps.
SectionIQ is currently in development. This policy describes the intended operation of the product and will be reviewed before production deployment so that it reflects the final build, hosting arrangements and the organisation using the service.
1. What SectionIQ is designed to do
SectionIQ is designed to record railway journey information during a user-started session and turn that data into operational performance insight. The intended outputs include route mapping, station timing, dwell time, sectional journey time, average speed and comparison against relevant timetable information.
2. Location data
SectionIQ may collect precise device location while an authorised user has an active recording session. Where supported by the device and permitted by the user or deploying organisation, this may include background location so that the phone can be put away while the journey continues.
Recording is intended to be manually started and stopped. SectionIQ is not designed to continuously monitor a person's location outside an active operational recording session.
3. Journey and operational data
During a recording session, SectionIQ may process timestamps, location points and information derived from them, such as speed, route, station arrival and departure times, dwell periods, sectional running times and timetable variance. A deployment may also use a device, installation, tester or session identifier so that records can be organised correctly.
4. Why the data is used
Data collected through SectionIQ is intended to be used for railway performance analysis, operational improvement, testing, troubleshooting, service evaluation and the identification of recurring patterns or delay points. SectionIQ is not designed to serve behavioural advertising or build consumer advertising profiles.
5. Workplace deployments and data-controller responsibilities
Where SectionIQ is deployed by a railway operator, employer, client or other organisation, that organisation may be the data controller for information collected through the deployment, with Bodge Job Apps acting as a service provider or data processor where appropriate. The deploying organisation is responsible for providing any additional employee or participant privacy information required for its particular use of SectionIQ and for identifying an appropriate lawful basis for the processing.
Users should therefore read this policy together with any privacy notice, pilot briefing or monitoring policy supplied by the organisation asking them to use SectionIQ.
6. Automated decision-making
SectionIQ is intended to support operational analysis. It is not designed to make solely automated decisions about a person's employment, competence, disciplinary status or suitability. Railway performance can be influenced by infrastructure, signalling, regulation, passenger demand, rolling stock, weather and other factors, so journey data should be interpreted in context.
7. Sharing of information
SectionIQ data may be made available to authorised administrators within the organisation operating the deployment. Bodge Job Apps may also use hosting, database or technical service providers where necessary to operate the service. Those providers should only process data for the purpose of supplying the relevant service.
We do not sell SectionIQ location or operational data to advertisers. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
8. Data transmission and security
Production versions of SectionIQ are intended to use encrypted network connections when transmitting data to a backend service. We also aim to apply access controls and data-minimisation measures appropriate to the nature of the information being processed. No electronic system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
9. Data retention
Journey-level data should be retained only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the relevant trial, operational analysis, contractual requirement or legal obligation. Where detailed location information is no longer required, records may be deleted or converted into aggregated or de-identified performance information where appropriate. Production retention periods may vary by deployment and should be documented by the organisation using SectionIQ.
10. Your choices and rights
Device operating systems provide controls for location permissions, including background location. Removing a required permission may prevent SectionIQ from recording a journey correctly. In an organisational deployment, questions about access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or other data-protection rights should normally be directed first to the organisation responsible for that deployment.
If Bodge Job Apps is the relevant controller for a direct test or enquiry, you may contact us using the details below. UK data-protection rights can vary according to the circumstances and the lawful basis being relied upon.
11. Children
SectionIQ is a professional operational tool and is not designed for children or directed at users under 18.
12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy as SectionIQ develops, when features or service providers change, or when legal and app-store requirements require further information. The latest version will be published on this page with a revised update date.
